The Snubfin Dolphin Conservation Project (SDCP) has spent many years working in Papua New Guinea to try and develop inshore dolphin research and conservation programs. Due to the complexity of issues working in Papua New Guinea, it became obvious that research and conservation would only be successful with local PNG researchers leading and implementing projects.

Due to the complexity of issues working in Papua New Guinea, it became obvious that research and conservation would only be successful with local PNG researchers leading and implementing projects.

In 2016, the SDCP began a scholarship project in collaboration with James Cook University to provide PNG students an opportunity to study marine sciences at University Papua New Guinea and James Cook University. This very successful program was funded by Exxon Mobil PNG Ltd.

The SDCP aims to continue this scholarship program and continue to provide training and education opportunities to Papua New Guinea students and interested researchers.

SDCP will also continue to collaborate with important partner organisations in Papua New Guinea including the Piku Biodiversity Network, Conservation and Environment Protection Authority, PNG National Museum and Art Gallery and University Papua New Guinea.
